Chrome tanning technique, invented in 1858, involves tanning using chromium sulfate and other salts of chromium. Tanned leather through this method is more supple and pliable than vegetable tanned leather, and does not lose its shape or gets discolored into contact with water, as drastically as vegetable tanned leather. A wider range of colors can be obtained using this technique of tanning.
